League City is a city falling within Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan area, in Texas. It is partially in both Galveston and Harris counties. League City’s population jumped from 45,444 at the 2000 census to 83,560 in 2010. There is a small area north of Clear Creek in Harris County zoned for residential and commercial uses. Several waterside resorts that are popular with residents of neighboring Houston are found in League City. Between 200 and 2005, League City beat Galveston as Galveston County’s largest city. It was rising real estate prices in Galveston that forced many people to move to other areas like League City. The financial website NerdWallet deemed League City the best city in Texas for people looking for work in 2013.

The University of Texas Medical Branch board of regents approved the 110,000-square-foot Specialty Care Center facility to be built in 2008. It is located on 35 acres near the Interstate 45 and the Victory Lakes community. League City is served by San Jacinto College in Harris County, and the Galveston County part is served by the College of the Mainland. Houston Gulf Airport used to be found in eastern League City, but the airport’s land was sold and it became a row of houses along Highway 96. George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William P. Hobby Airport, located in Houston, now serve the area. There is a 38,000-square-foot facility in League City called the Perry Family YMCA, found at 1701 League City Parkway, and it cost $10.7 million.
