East of the intersection of Interstate 10 and the East Loop of Interstate 610, Jacinto City is a city in Harris County, Texas. The city is in the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan area, bordered by Houston and Galena Park. In 2010, the population was 10,553, and in 1990, the city had 9,343 people. Jacinto City is famous for being the location of the 1998 murder of Louis “Buddy” Musso by Susan “Sue” Basso. Basso lived in the city, where she held Musso against his will. Musso died in an accomplice’s apartment unit in Houston, and his corpse was left in neighboring Galena Park.

PRIME LOCATION

The United States Census Bureau records the total area at 1.9 square miles, which is all land. It is found in Central Harris County next to the Missouri Pacific Railroad and at the Highway 90, Interstate 610, and Interstate 10 intersection. Jacinto City gets its name from the close by San Jacinto battleground. In 2000, there was a population of 10,302 people, 2,947 households, and 2,392 families living in the city. Average population density was 5,540.8 people per square mile, and there were 3,124 housing units of average density of 1,680.2/square mile. The racial profile was 68.18% White, 1.23% African American, 0.89% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 25.66% other races, and 75.39% Hispanic or Latino of any race. The average income for a household in Jacinto City was $34,672, with the median income for a family at $36,755.

QUALITY OF LIFE

Jacinto City has a municipal preschool operated by its Parks and Recreation Department, with attendance open to children of the ages of 3 and 4. The Jacinto City Department of Parks and Recreation operates a swimming pool, four parks, a recreation center, and four playing fields. Milton Lusk Youth Activity Center is a facility under their operation. The Jacinto City Town Center has numerous facilities, one of which is a community center that can be rented out by Jacinto City residents. The Heritage Hall is a recreational center located in the same complex providing meals and activities for senior citizens of age 60 or older operated by the city. First opening in 1979, the center now offers transportation to and from Jacinto City, Galena Park, and the Songwood community of Houston.
